Recently saw a tweet bashing married folks who distance themselves from single friends. Then, someone responded that it’s single people who give married friends the cold shoulder.
Honestly, friends who become distant after marriage often exhibited similar traits before tying the knot. I used to have a friend who doesn’t need to tell me whenever she gets into a relationship – I know when she’s single and when she’s taken, even before she says it. People like this deserve an award for being inconsistent — so their withdrawal from friends after marriage shouldn’t be a shock.
Personally, I kind of withdraw from opposite-sex friends after they get into a relationship or get married — out of respect. And if they reciprocate with the same energy, no offense baba mi.
…but there are some friends who carry the “no gree for anybody” tag with their full chest. The ones who would introduce you to their partner and vice versa — the real gees. With this, there’s boundary but the friendship still continues. Now, tell me why you won’t be comfortable talking to them when part of your conversation would include their partner? Or why you won’t be comfortable talking to them when you know their partner is comfortable with them around you? FWB left this conversation plizzz, this table isn’t yours.
So, the ball’s in your court as a married friend to your single friends. If you feel your single friends abandoned you, ask yourself: what did you do to rekindle the friendship? Or you just concluded they distanced themselves out of jealousy? Did you consider the reason behind their withdrawal as probably doubts of your partner being comfortable with them around? What did you do after they withdrew?
Till I’m back to stir the drink, stay gbam!

True. Most people distance themselves out of respect, especially with the opposite sex. If the married friend then reaches out, it encourages and sends a signal that you can continue.
Exactly 💯.
Thanks for engaging, boss.
Guys are usually not like that. We continue being cool, except your wife shows me attitude and I won’t come to your house again, but we’re still very cool.
Yeah, it’s easier to maintain the friendship when it’s same sex friendship.
