Like every other viral search of justice for a victim of rape, Nigerians turned out again in numbers last month. And as impressive as it is, I’m tired of serious matters being reduced to a trend of the moment that fades away with time.

…but there’s something else I’m more tired of — people turning war against rape to war against men. These ones are the ones who make feminism tiring. We’re talking about rape and it’s “men men men men” traaa.  Fighting against rape doesn’t revolve around men alone — we have women who need to be cautioned too.

A lady tries to have her way with a guy and when he declines, she proceeds to threaten him about screaming to frame him up for rape. Now, the guy is caught up in the web of possible false accusation if he refuses. A sexual intercourse against his will — give me another definition of rape, sis. That’s not woman power, that’s devilish!

With past experience from my years of counseling, I can tell you for free that most male have experienced sexual assault at one point or another. The male gender don’t really talk about it doesn’t mean they’re also not victims. And when it comes to opening up about it, I’ll still blame the society like I did in my poem “I am a boy”. “I am a boy” is a poem I wrote in 2020 — I might share it on my next post here. It’s really crazy how men are expected to find being raped as luck or enjoyment.

When it comes to rape, I hope we someday drop gender thingy and face the real monsters — both male and female.

Also when it comes to protecting children from rapists, I hope our generation would do better than the previous. Protecting not just the female child, but also the male child. It’ll be an addition if rape discussion gets included into the school curriculum too.

Till when the world becomes a safe space for more men to share their story, stay safe. And if you’ve ever been a victim of rape, remember to pursue the healing you deserve. Talk to a trusted person if you need to, see a therapist if you need to and take legal action if you want to.

Till I’m back to stir the drink, stay gbam!
